On a Loose Lead
| How many times have you heard that? It means the judge in the ring wants to see your dog in a more natural state going around. “On a loose lead” means your dog shouldn't be strung up, unable to express its natural self. Well, that’s what this new weekly column is all about. We are facing many, many issues today that need to be discussed and the discussion needs to be open, above board and unfettered. So, as the year unfolds, I hope to discuss these issues of import and interest.Over the past two years, I have received and answered hundreds of emails asking questions about PetPAC. The vast majority have been very supportive, but some have been angry and threatening. I have answered them all. When I, or PetPAC does something that doesn’t sit well with our membership, I hear about it. In every case whether I agree or not, I have supported that person’s right to express their views. In a lot of cases, when I explain why we did what we did, it is accepted. When I screw up, I hear about it. In those cases, I stand humbly chastised, and vow to go my way and sin no more. Sometimes though, the anger and frustration just cannot be answered. In those times all I can do is plead my case and hope for understanding. Overwhelmingly, what PetPAC and I have done, has been gratefully accepted by everyone. I receive more encouraging and supportive emails by far. The fact that PetPAC has grown from zip two years ago to over 45,000 is proof we are doing the right thing. I never forget---it is not me alone, nor PetPAC alone that has brought success. It is the combined voice of thousands of us working together that has won the day so far. During these past two years, I have been very proud to have been allowed to represent you. Every day, I try to earn your trust and respect. With your help and support, we have over come one hell of a fight---AB 1634. In all of its guises and manifestations we have persevered. In the coming weeks and months, I hope to continue PetPAC down that road of success. I plan to layout our strategy in fighting for our pets and our way of life. We have a long road ahead. I hope to convince you of the urgent need that we stay focused and stay together. If we do, we win. Bill Hemby Chairman |
